quinDance – manifests itself in various aspects, that of nature, philosophy, even oriental ethic ideology. More importantly, it seeks to explore the adaptation of dance transcending beyond the traditional boundaries, and revolves around the dancer, design, costume, choreographer and rhythmic coordination. The title embodies a dual meaning: Dance Horizon Troupe (Singapore) has reached five years of incorporation, thus a celebration of quinquennium. Dance lives on at horizon, the premise for the five forms perpetuates.

Inspired by poetry and prose, quinDance is separated distinctly into two halfs. The former emanates from the essence of Chinese dance, while the latter exudes originality in Contemporary works. In terms of presentation style, costumes as well as settings, the project is both visionary and bold in embracing the audience with creativity and break-throughs.

The Tale of Lady Du Shi Niang |

Guest Choreographer: Liang Jian Ping

n the history of China, threr were once a group of women who were endowed with great beauty and performing skills. Despite the ravages of life, they still believed in the promises of the future. The tragic encounter of a lady named "Du Shi Niang" epitomises their fate. Betrayed by the an whom she entrusted her happiness with, she left the world with her riches as declaration of her purity. A poignant tale which invokes much thought.

Forever | 永恒

Choreographer: Cindy Zhuang Hanqiao

Joy and sorrow pass through passages of time.

It is the eternity that rises vividly before you close your eyes.

The pure and glistening sparkle like the distant sea deep in the heart signifies eternal love.

Quintessence | 红颜

Choreographer: Yap Seok Hui

The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes, the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.

True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows.

True beauty resonates from the chearcter. A woman who authors her own life. A woman who exerts, initiates and moves on her own behalf. A woman who refuses to surrender except to her truest self and her wisest voice.

The beauty of a woman. With time, only grows...

Zen of Eight Strokes is the prologue of a meditative process of composition study on the eight basic strokes in Chinese writing and to originate embodiment of visualization.

Light of Dawn | 曙光

Guest Choreographer: Yap Guat Khim

Unpleasant encounters abound, embrace challenges with open hearts.

As is the determination displated by the spring growth, look towards the rays of light and ideals will eventually be realised.

Nervous Tension | 空间

Choreographer: Viv Phua Muiling

Nervous tension causes you to lack confidence in yourself, lose your power and concentration and to be inefficient in your work. Learn to relax from time to time so that nervous tension never pulls up to an unpleasant degree.

Songs of Innocence |

Guest Choreographer: Grace Leong

Most of us are taught that in order to get anything in life, we must work hard and struggle without regard to our other needs, including the need for play. Yet, this constant striving is precisely what keeps us from ever arriving, at least not to a destination we really want to arrive at. It is when we have taken some time out, allowed ourselves to have some fun now and again, to be as a child we once were, that miracles and magic become possible. This is what the Angel has come to remind you.

孤影独行;

Under the somber moonlight,

a solitude sihouette,

feels her heartbeat,

dances to her soul.

Whatumanawa | 心启

Choreographer: Liz Fong Huey Jun

Whatumanawa is an abstract contemporary work inspired by the people at Te Whaea in New Zealand where each individual fervently pursues his passion, despite the arduous demands and challenges. The initial perplexity and rummage for an identity gradually translates into the acknowledgement and freedom of expressing oneself.

The heart drives each soul...
